Ketie Sandhu

Ketie Sandhu holds a Masterís degree in Cereal and Food Sciences from North Dakota State University.  Ketieís career evolved from being a Quality Assurance Intern at a flour mill in North Dakota to her current role as a Food Safety Assurance Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Development (MAFRD).

Ketieís exceptional contributions to the food processing industry in the field of food safety, quality assurance, and consumer/client satisfaction have made a positive impact on business results.  During the last 10 years, Ketie has held influential food safety-related positions at a various notable food processing organizations.  She is highly skilled and knowledgeable professional with experience, in both the public and private sectors, overseeing and leading projects in quality assurance, regulatory affairs, food safety, audits and academics.  A well-respected leader and team player, she is dedicated to staying informed of the latest trends and uses her competitive mind-set to realize highly challenging goals and superior quality work.

As the Pilot Plant Manager from 2006 to 2007 at the then newly opened Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals in Winnipeg, Ketie effectively prepared the Good Manufacturing Practices manuals and Standard Operating Procedures that were later implemented in the new facility.  She submitted a successful application which granted the pilot plant a Natural Health Product Manufacturing Site License, an accomplishment achieved by independently navigating the new Natural Health Product Regulations, which had only come into force two years earlier in 2004.

Beginning in 2007, in the position of Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager at Gourmet Baker Inc., Ketieís star shined brightly as she was responsible for product quality management, food safety and food security programs.  She led all Global Food Safety Initiative plant audits and successfully secured a government grant to acquire new software designed to increase productivity and reduce overhead and waste.  She also shared her professional knowledge by guest lecturing on HACCP and QA programs at the University of Manitoba and Red River College.

Moving to the role of Quality Manager at Michael Foods in 2012, Ketie implemented a universal colour coding for production utensils and tools, which minimized the risk of cross-contamination hazards in the facility.  She improved plant sanitation through an environmental monitoring program and led the facility to achieve the highest scores in customer and third-party audits.  Her initiative and willingness to help others succeed, through mentoring and conflict resolution, gained Ketie the respect of many plant employees and peers.

In late 2013, Ketie joined the department of Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (MAFRD).  Initially, she took on the position of Health Officer/Agri-Food Processing Inspector, and is currently a Food Safety Assurance Specialist.  In this capacity, Ketie continues to demonstrate her dedication and expertise in the field of food safety and quality.

Ketieís professional and personable approach has helped to make her an invaluable role model within the CIFST Manitoba Section.  Ketie has been a member of CIFST since 2008 and has served in positions on the Manitoba Section Management Committee as the Program Chair (2009 Ė 2011) and as the Financial Reviewer (2014 to present).  She has volunteered as a judge for the CIFST Special Awards category at the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium (MSSS) and was Co-Chair of the CIFST Manitoba Section 2015 Supplier Expo.
